Iowa City: Shelter House
Iowa City’s only general homeless shelter with 70 beds and breakfast and dinner provided. People can stay for up to 30 days in the emergency shelter or up to 90 days in the transitional shelter program with active case management services to help them achieve stable housing and employment. There are special programs for veterans and families, job training, and a nursing clinic at their site.

CommUnity Food Pantry at Pepperwood Plaza
The Food Bank at Pepperwood Plaza provides produce, bakery, deli, dairy, health, baby, hygiene and non-perishable items. We primarily serve residents of Johnson County, IA. Each household may receive grocery assistance once per week. Clients may choose their own items with some limits based on family size. Pre-made bags are available for individuals who prefer not to shop.
USDA Foods are available to anyone who is eligible without providing any additional information. There are no income limits or other requirements to receive non-USDA food at CommUnity Food Bank. Households with addresses residing in Johnson County are eligible for full Food Pantry Membership (access to non-USDA foods).
Shopping at the Food Bank is completely free and confidential.
