Daniel Runde
MD, MME
Current Positions:
Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, UI Health Care
Senior Faculty Director of the UI Mobile Clinic
My first calling was to train narwhals to work as haberdashers in boutique stores in Barcelona, but when it became clear that the local milliners wouldn't allow it, I changed course for emergency medicine and haven't looked back. I love that our specialty never closes our doors: we will see anyone, with any illness at any time. On top of that, it gives me the opportunity to work with the most motivated and caring faculty, residents, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff in the hospital.

Co-Faculty Director of the UI Mobile Clinic
As a faculty advisor, I act as a bridge between foundational medical education and community-based, primary care delivery. My role involves providing mentorship for onsite clinical supervision and guidance to medical and interprofessional students as they provide free, comprehensive care to underserved, vulnerable populations in our community. I focus on fostering a patient-centered approach, supporting students as they manage chronic conditions and address social determinants of health, while ensuring high standards of safety and care. Beyond direct clinical oversight, I help students develop essential skills in leadership, interprofessional collaboration, and compassionate care, ultimately strengthening the pipeline of future providers committed to health equity.

BME
Current Positions:
Assistant Director of Financial Services, Carver College of Medicine
Faculty Financial Director of the UI Mobile Clinic
I have been the Assistant Director of Financial Services in the Carver College of Medicine since 2015. When I started working at the College of Medicine, I joined the Mobile Clinic Executive Board as the Financial Director. While I am likely the only person on the Executive Board without a background in medicine, everyone has been excellent in explaining medical jargon in laymen's terms (as Michael Scott would say, explain it to me like I’m 5!). It is an honor to advise these wonderful students as they work together to provide healthcare for all.
